Piccuta Law Group Files New Civil Rights Lawsuit Alleging Excessive Force and Police Brutality Against Monterey County Sheriffs

On April 6, 2016, the Piccuta Law Group filed a new civil rights lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 which prohibits the violation of an individual’s civil rights and liberties. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and is entitled Campbell v. Burns, Et Al. The lawsuit arises out of events that took place in Monterey County in 2015.

The lawsuit alleges that on February 14, 2015, Campbell was attending the AT&T golf tournament in Pebble Beach, California. Campbell and his girlfriend were at the Lodge in Pebble Beach when they were asked to leave by Monterey County Sheriffs who were present. Campbell obeyed and departed in a taxi cab with his girlfriend. However, Campbell had the taxi cab return when he realized he did not have his wallet.

The lawsuit alleges, that upon Campbell’s return, the sheriffs who had asked him to leave became furious believing he was violating their commands. The lawsuit further alleges, that as a result, the sheriffs aggressively approached him, unnecessarily threw him to the ground and then mercilessly ground his face into the pavement. An ambulance was called to the scene because of the injuries inflicted on Campbell. Campbell was then transported to the emergency room at the Community Hospital for treatment.
