Piccuta Law Group Settles Excessive Force Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Monterey County Sheriff Deputies for $99,999.00
On June 13, 2017, the Piccuta Law Group reached a settlement with Monterey County Sheriff Deputies in the matter of Campbell v. Burns, Et Al. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleged that the deputies used excessive force when they arrested the firm’s client at the AT&T golf tournament in Pebble Beach in 2015.
The lawsuit alleged that Deputies unnecessarily and purposefully rubbed the client’s face into the asphalt when the arrested him for public intoxication outside the Lodge at Pebble Beach. The lawsuit alleged that this violated the client’s constitutional rights of free speech and to be free from excessive force. The County of Monterey agreed to pay $99,999.00 to resolve the lawsuit prior to trial.
