Piccuta Law Group Conducts Two Focus Groups for Upcoming Spinal Injury Trial
On March 16, 2017, the Piccuta Law Group conducted two deliberation focus groups for an upcoming spinal injury trial. Both focus groups involved eight individuals selected at random from the community to serve as mock jurors. The firm then presented the case with attorney Charles Tony Piccuta presenting the Plaintiff’s side and attorney and actor Matt Laydon presenting the case for the defense.

At the focus groups, both sides presented condensed opening and closing statements. The mock jurors heard from the actual Plaintiff in the case and watched video testimony of the treating surgeon who would testify at trial. The jurors also received testimony summaries of the other witnesses and were presented the exhibits. At the close, the mock jurors were read the jury instructions, told to select a foreman and allowed to deliberate.
The Piccuta Law Group then listened to the deliberations of the jurors to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the case as well as the concerns of the jurors. When asked about the deliberation focus group, Piccuta said: “Nothing will prepare you and your client better for trial. More importantly, it allows you to learn what the jury wants to know and what they may be thinking about the case. If the mock jury wants information that they believe is important or wants certain questions answered, you can make sure it is included during the real trial.”
